Tour d'Afrique

Starting in Cairo, Egypt more than 50 people from different nationalities will begin the cycle tour of 12 000 km to finish only four months later in the V&A waterfront in Cape Town on 14 May.

The route will take us through Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia and the west coast of South Africa. The tour of 120 days will be broken up in 95 cycling days, averaging 123 km’s per day, 23 rest days and 2 days on ferry boat travel. The days will range from 80 kilometres on rough terrain to more than 180 kilometres on the best paved roads.

The first Tour d’Afrique under the leadership of Mr Henry Gold was completed in 2003 and still holds the Guinness world record for the fastest human powered crossing of Africa.

We will be accompanied by three support trucks, carrying the supplies. Every rider will have his/her own locker on a truck to store extra bike equipment, tents, clothing, etc. All meals will also be prepared by the tour staff.
